Design in Motion: Lessons from Formula 1 and Our Website Refresh

When we set out to refresh the Explosive Brands website, we knew we wanted to bring in a stronger sense of motion and flow, something that felt dynamic yet purposeful. Something with rhythm, flow and a sense of momentum that mirrors how we work as a studio. The goal wasn’t to make things simply move, but to create motion with purpose: transitions that guide, moments that engage and interactions that add clarity rather than clutter.

As we explored what’s possible in Webflow, we stumbled into an unexpected source of inspiration - Formula 1 driver websites. Charles Leclerc, Lando Norris, the Mercedes team, these sits are often sleek, high-performance and surprisingly elegant in how they handle animation.

Among them, Lando Norris’ website, designed by Off-Brand Studio, really stood out to us. It’s a masterclass in smooth transitions and layered visuals, a website that feels fast-paced yet never chaotic. Every scroll feels like it’s guiding you somewhere, fast-paced, dynamic but still cohesive and purposeful (much like driving an F1 car, we imagine).

That balance of energy and clarity became a huge reference point for us as we refreshed our own site. It reminded us how good motion design can elevate storytelling and that it's not just decoration but a part of the experience itself.
